A little about our hut and us

What you get inside

We have built our hut with luxury in mind. Beautifully fitted out with period lamps, seating and fittings. Painted in Farrow and Ball  throughout, our hut comes complete with a King Size bed, oven / microwave, sink, fridge, log stove, kettle, toaster and Nespresso coffee machine, separate shower and toilet and everything you need to make your stay amazing.

We have fitted it out with everything you need, towels and robes for the Hot Tub, beautiful bedding and cosy duvets, choice of pillows, and all the kitchen essentials and of course glasses for every occasion!

What you get outside

Simply stunning views! Of course that's not all. The hut has a log stove heated hot tub, plenty of seating areas, either on its own patio, or under the trees of the spinney, looking out across the rolling hills. A fire pit, barrel barbecue, and Ooni pizza oven complete the outdoor lifestyle you will love. You can wander the paddock, make friends with the goats and sheep, or simply stop and chill.

What you can add

Little Oaks sits in its own post and railed ancient meadow grass paddock. Families are welcome to use the space to put up a tent for Children, or Mum and Dad to stay in using the Hut as the base. We welcome family groups to Hillview.

About us

We are Steve and Julie, and came to live at Hillview 10 years ago, rebuilding the house, and creating a working smallholding of 8 acres. You will stay amongst our horses, sheep (lambs at the right time), goats, chickens, dogs and of course our barn cats.

We have lovingly looked after and regenerated the land we own, building a habitat for wildlife and developing Hillview to be a haven. You can read more about this in "Our Ethos"  page.

What you can do from hillview

Footpaths across the fields from Hillview

Walking

From the huts door, you can walk across our land and onto footpaths that will take you miles. Villages with pubs in either direction offer a great stroll out, or a longer walk across the countryside.

Literally up the road is Twyford wood, and the other direction Morkery wood. An ex wwII US airforce base, Twyford was instrumental in the Pathfinders glider landings ahead of D-Day, The runways make a lovely walk today and dogs love it.

Cycling

If two wheels is your thing, then the villages all around us are well worth a visit. Rutland water has a cycle track all around it, and is only a few minutes drive from us. You can cycle much of the towpath of the Grantham Canal that is being restored, there is plenty to chose from.

Castles, Stately homes and history

We have it all!!

Newtons home at Woolthorpe Manor is walkable from us, still with the famous apple tree! or Belvoir Castle, Grimsthorpe Castle, Burghley House, Belton House are all within a few minutes drive. Further out you can go to Oakham Castle, Lincoln Castle. So much to chose from.

Of course there are the wwII bomber airfields all around us, Twyford is  at the end of the road, and housed the USAF Pathfinder forces and their gliders, key for the pre-D-day landings. You can walk the entire length of the runways, and explore the old control tower. The list goes on, you'll not be short of something to see or do.

Or - do nothing.

Just sit and relax, either in the hot-tub, or in a comfy chair, looking out across the countryside. Read a book.

Watch the sheep, help out with lambing, (at the right time of course) feeding the animals.

There is plenty of "do-nothing" at Hillview if you are here on a relaxing  break away from it,  and we will keep away as well!
